Chelsea striker Eden Hazard set to undergo knee surgery after breaking leg
Eden Hazard is set to have surgery on his knee after breaking it during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at Stoke.
The Belgium striker sustained the injury in the closing stages of the game.
Chelsea’s victory over Stoke will put them in pole position for top spot in the Premier League, and their players were not happy with the way they performed in the opening half.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said: “It’s not good.
I think he broke his leg.”
Chelsea won the tie thanks to goals from Eden Hazard, John Terry and Eden Hazard himself.
It is Hazard’s second knee operation in two weeks, after having surgery to repair an Achilles tendon issue.
Chelsea have suffered some bad news about their injury record in the last few weeks, with a host of players suffering knee injuries at the end of the season.
The injury to Hazard has led to concerns about his long-term fitness, with many predicting that the Belgian will miss at least the next six months.
Hazard is currently on loan at Real Madrid, and Chelsea hope that he will stay on at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The former Chelsea man was in the dressing room after the match to take part in a physiotherapy session ahead of his return.
He said: ”I’m here to help Chelsea to be the best we can be.
I’m here for my friends.
I hope to be back here in August.
I’ll talk to them again in the next week or so.
I have some bad days but they are good days.
”I have a lot of work to do and I’m not thinking about the injuries that I have.”
